They say it’s too late for coming home alone. They say you shouldn’t be out alone, especially when it’s dark outside. They say you shouldn’t wear this, you shouldn’t take on this shoes, you shouldn’t wear this skirt. They say you shouldn’t put on this red lipstick. They say that we have to contain ourselves.
But what if we don’t want to? What if we want to live this life we are living? What if we want to live our lives the way we want and not the way they say?
Why is it possible that boys and men can come home late and alone? Why can boys and men be out alone, even when it’s dark outside? Why can boys and men wear what they want? Why can boys and men do what they want? Why can boys and men live the lives the way they want to?
What if we want this, too?
It is not our fault if we come home alone or if we wear these shoes and skirts and lipsticks. It is not our responsibility. It is our right.
There are so many cases of brutal violence against women, often leading to murder. So many cases that you get splitting headache. A woman thrown down the stairs, a woman lugged up the stairs, a woman brutally hit and murdered. What the hell is happening with this world? What the hell is happening with these men? Are they totally out of their mind? Have they ever had a mind?
And then this silence and ignorance and innocence and denial and hypocrisy.
There’s an end of it! We refuse to hide! We do not care about what they say because what they say is wrong. We have the right to live the life we want to live!
World, stop violence against women. Media, start to speak up for women. Men, start using your common sense. Women, start to speak up for yourselves.
